Artemide

History of Italian design

Artemide is one of Italy's leading lighting brands, with a long-standing heritage of innovation and creativity. Founded in 1960 by Ernesto Gismondi, the company has created some of the most iconic works of contemporary Italian design, featured in art museums and design collections around the world.

Among its most celebrated collaborations are those with Michele De Lucchi, who shaped the Tolomeo and the Dioscuri collections, and Vico Magistretti, designer the Dalù, Eclisse, and Chimera lamps. Other landmark creations by Artemide include the Tizio table lamp by Richard Sapper and Lesbo by Angelo Mangiarotti, symbols of Italian design excellence.

Today, Artemide brings together its heritage and craftsmanship withadvanced technology and socio-cultural research, continuing to create lighting solutions that are a true expression of their time.

Artemide, with a rich history of more than 60 years in the lighting world, stands as a beacon of innovation and refined design. Founded in 1959, the company has played a key role in redefining the contemporary lighting landscape, carrying out its mission to combine aesthetics, technology and sustainability.

The Artemide catalog is a celebration of light as a design element. Lamps, suspensions and wall sconces are not simply sources of lighting, but true objects of art that transform spaces with plays of light and shadow. Design icons, such as the Tolomeo lamp designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina, embody the Artemide philosophy of balance between form and function.
