Alambicco Horizontal Pendant Lamp

Design

Alambicco Horizontal is born from the overlapping of technical and artisanal elements. The lamp body does not completely conceal the technology, but rather allows it to be glimpsed through multiple layers of glass. At the center is a linear structure in extruded aluminum that houses the LED circuitry on four opposing faces. This element represents the technological heart of the project and distributes light along the entire length of the pendant.

A layered lighting structure

The first layer surrounding the LED core is a knurled glass cylinder. The texture refracts the image of the internal components without completely hiding them, attenuating the direct perception of the technology. This solution allows for controlled light emission and reduced glare, while maintaining the lamp's complex construction. Transparent diffusers with softer geometries overlap the inner cylinder. The different elements break down the light and transform the image of the central core into a succession of reflections, chromatic variations, and optical distortions.

Blown Glass and Balloton Technique

The diffusers are handcrafted from blown glass and reinterpret the ancient Venetian balloton technique. During the process, a matrix imprints a texture composed of small square-based reliefs into the hot glass. In a subsequent phase, the master glassmaker shapes the volume until achieving its final form. The three-dimensional design changes density following the curves of the diffuser: the texture seems to open and close along the surface, coming to life when light passes through it. Variations in thickness, relief, and shape are natural characteristics of the manual process. Each lamp therefore features slightly different reflections and details, making it a unique piece.

Comfortable, glare-free light

The layering of the glass performs a precise optical function. The knurled cylinder attenuates the direct view of the LED circuitry, while the external diffusers refract and distribute the light throughout the room. The light emission is uniform along the horizontal axis of the lamp. The glass textures introduce depth and movement without compromising visual comfort. Alambicco can therefore effectively illuminate a surface below while simultaneously diffusing a soft glow into the surrounding space. The lamp remains dramatic even when turned off, when natural light highlights the craftsmanship and transparency of the glass.

Lighting Performance

Alambicco Horizontal integrates a 46W LED source and is available in two color temperatures. The 2700K version emits 3707 lumens and produces a particularly warm and welcoming light. The 3000K variant reaches 3904 lumens, offering a warm but slightly more neutral tone. Both configurations have a color rendering index of CRI 90, suitable for accurately enhancing the colors of furnishings, fabrics, foods, and surfaces. The device is dimmable and is also available in versions compatible with the Artemide App, based on the selected code.
