Par 18 Chandelier

Design

The Par 18 Chandelier expands the Catellani & Smith low-voltage candelabra collection, reinterpreting the traditional multi-light composition through transparent volumes and a visually essential suspension system. The circular base accommodates thirty-five thin cables, each topped with a luminous sphere. The lightness of the glass and the small diameter of the connections minimize the presence of technical components, allowing the light and the arrangement of the pendants to define the entire composition.

Lightness and Transparency

Each diffuser is crafted from transparent blown glass with an irregular texture developed to a Catellani & Smith design and produced by Bohemian master glassmakers. The surface features a succession of reliefs playfully reminiscent of the texture of a golf ball. The process maintains the transparency of the material, but alters the way light passes through the glass. When the lamp is on, the irregularities generate refractions, variations in intensity, and small points of light. When off, the texture gives the spheres a tactile and precious quality, avoiding the uniform appearance of a perfectly smooth industrial diffuser. The strength of Par 18 Chandelier comes from the balance between the large number of elements and their perceptual lightness. The transparent spheres do not interrupt the view of the room, while the thin black cables seem to transform into graphic lines suspended in space. Even in the densest configurations, the composition maintains a sense of openness and luminosity.

Versatility and Ambience

Above a large dining table, Par 18 Chandelier creates a dramatic lighting composition without impeding the visual connection between people. A customized configuration with a rectangular base can follow the longitudinal development of the tabletop. In a stairwell, the different heights of the pendants accompany the vertical movement of the architecture. In an entryway or double-height space, the chandelier becomes a central element, perceptible from multiple levels and perspectives. The transparency of the glass allows the composition to interact with both light and chromatic interiors. The extensive customization options make the Par 18 Chandelier also suitable for restaurants, hotels, boutiques, lounges, and reception areas.
