Patricia Urquiola maintains the exposed wooden frame and combines it with a padded volume that seems to bend and wrap around the body. The curved backrest extends laterally to form two small wings that serve as armrests. This gesture makes the silhouette immediately recognizable and creates a protected area, where the seat, backrest, and side supports are perceived as a single, welcoming system.
Structure and Seat
The base is made of solid ash or Canaletto walnut, demonstrating Cassina's expertise in woodworking. The rear legs extend upward, supporting the backrest and revealing the relationship between the frame and the upholstery. The broad sections lend stability to the armchair, while the inclination of the elements lightens the construction and introduces a sense of dynamism. The armchair features a tubular steel seat frame with elastic straps, a solution that offers support and a more comfortable response while sitting.
