Theia Table Lamp

Design

Theia is based on a seemingly simple formal construction: two hemispheres arranged perpendicularly and overlapping along a central axis. This elementary geometry, however, allows the lamp to assume very different lighting configurations. The vertical metal shade is completely opaque and visually divides the light source, while the translucent element completes the volume and helps diffuse the light. Rotation therefore changes not only the direction of the light emission, but also the appearance of the lamp itself. In a matter of moments, Theia can go from an open and brilliant light source to a more intimate presence, in which the source is shielded and the light is reflected into the surrounding space.

Light and shadow in a single object

The concept behind Theia is to combine light and shadow within the same composition. Oriented toward the user, the lamp provides more direct light and can be used for reading, working, or illuminating a nearby surface. Rotating in the opposite direction, the metal shade shields the source more and directs the light toward a wall, object, or other surface. The result is a more delicate, indirect illumination capable of creating depth and atmosphere. Different surfaces react to the light emission in different ways: some project it directly, others reflect it, and still others shield it. This combination produces a variable perception of light and makes the body of the lamp an active part of the experience.

Structure and materials

The light body combines opaque and transparent materials. The vertical hemisphere is made of turned and lacquered metal, with a white interior surface. The opaque metal shields the light and highlights the lamp's transformation as it rotates. This component is paired with a transparent, smoked thermoformed methacrylate element, which adds visual depth and greater lightness to the composition. The base and stem are made of lacquered iron, while the heat sink is lacquered aluminum. The metal construction provides stability to the lamp and creates a visually slender structure from which the two hemispheres appear to be suspended.

Integrated LED Light Source

Theia uses a built-in dimmable LED light source with a maximum output of 8.2 W. The lamp is dimmable and features a control integrated into the structure. Dimming further expands the possibilities offered by the lampshade's orientation. At higher brightness levels, Theia can serve a more functional purpose; by reducing the emission and directing the light source toward a wall, it becomes a delicate, atmospheric light. Rotation and dimming therefore work together, allowing you to control not only the amount of light, but also how it interacts with the space.
