The Tulla coffee table by Minotti, designed by Giampiero Tagliaferri, interprets the furnishing accessory as a sculptural volume with a strong graphic identity. The compact and essential cylindrical geometry is crossed horizontally by a large circular opening that interrupts the continuity of the surface and radically transforms the perception of the object.

Design
Tulla is born from a simple yet decisive design approach: starting from the purity of a cylinder and crossing its volume with a circular opening. Giampiero Tagliaferri thus intervenes on an archetypal form without altering its immediately recognizable nature. The cylinder remains clearly legible, but the central void introduces a visual tension that changes the way the accessory is perceived in space. The result is a coffee table with an essential and sculptural character, in which the plastic force of the volume coexists with a sensation of unexpected lightness.
Cylindrical Shape
Tulla's geometry is constructed around a full and compact cylindrical body. The absence of separate legs, overlapping tops, or additional structures gives the piece a monolithic presence. The shape is perceived as a single volume, capable of asserting itself within the composition while maintaining an extremely clean language. Tulla's distinctive element is the large circular opening that runs horizontally through the volume. The hole interrupts the mass of the cylinder and allows the gaze to pass through the piece, revealing a portion of the space behind it. This gesture generates a strong contrast between full and empty: from some perspectives, Tulla appears compact and sculptural, while from others the opening takes on a dominant role and considerably lightens its presence.
A balance between solidity and lightness
Tulla's strength arises from the tension between two seemingly opposite sensations. On the one hand, the cylindrical volume conveys solidity and stability. On the other, the central opening removes material and introduces light, depth, and visual transparency. Minotti describes this element as a graphic gesture capable of visually lightening the piece and redefining its formal perception, simultaneously reinterpreting its sculptural strength. The void is therefore not a simple decorative detail, but the principle through which the entire project acquires character and becomes the fulcrum for every type of living space.
