Seki-Han by Flos is a pendant lamp designed by Tobia Scarpa in 1963 and relaunched in 2025, in which wood serves as a tool for shaping light. Two horizontal ash-wood blades rotate around a central tubular LED light source, allowing for direct or indirect light emission and either symmetrical or asymmetrical light distribution. It is a sculptural, dynamic presence, capable of transforming an atmosphere with a simple gesture.
Delivery to your floor is an optional service. The price may vary depending on factors such as the size and weight of your order, the layout of the building, and the availability of elevators or freight lifts.
Add this service at checkout to receive a quote.
Standard shipping is free on orders from 250€ (Italy only) and applies to ground-level delivery. Worldwide shipping costs are calculated at checkout.
Unforeseen additional costs may apply to large items, floor delivery, or limited/difficult access to delivery location (such as traffic-restricted zones, remote areas, narrow staircases, tight passages, etc.). Additional costs for such conditions may include the rental of equipment like aerial platforms or special vehicles and will be charged to the recipient.
Seki-Han embodies Tobia Scarpa’s exploration of the relationship between material, construction, and lighting. The pendant lamp draws upon the design of the original floor lamp, reinterpreting it with a slightly shorter, horizontally oriented body.
The two ash wood blades are connected by chrome-plated metal fittings and arranged around the central linear light source. The intricate woodwork draws inspiration from shipbuilding techniques, transforming the material into precise, visually lightweight curved surfaces.
Even when the blades are brought close together, a slender line of light remains visible—a detail that enhances the design's poetic character.
The blades can rotate around the light source, adjusting both the quantity and direction of the emitted light.
Depending on their positioning, Seki-Han can provide:
- Direct light
- Indirect light
- Symmetrical distribution
- Asymmetrical distribution
This versatility allows the lamp to be adapted to its environment and the desired atmosphere, shifting from a broader, more uniform output to a more focused, directional light.
The linear LED source was custom-developed for this project and is dimmable. Dimming is managed via a compatible remote control system (dimmer not included).
Ash wood is the central element of the composition, defining both its aesthetic identity and how it interacts with light.
The lamp combines:
- Two horizontal ash wood slats
- Chrome-plated metal connectors
- A central tubular light source
- A T8 LED bulb with an opal finish
- A G13 base
The contrast between the tactile warmth of the wood and the precision of the chrome-plated connectors gives the pendant lamp a character that is sophisticated and technical, yet natural.
Designed by Tobia Scarpa in 1963, Seki-Han was reintroduced by Flos in 2025, available both as a floor lamp and in a new suspension configuration.
The design preserves the original concept, which allows the wooden elements to rotate around the light source—bridging the tangible, solid nature of wood with the ethereal quality of light.
The name "Seki-Han" refers to a traditional Japanese rice dish associated with special occasions, further enhancing the lamp’s evocative and symbolic character.
Its horizontal orientation makes Seki-Han particularly well-suited for placement above dining tables, large living area tables, kitchen islands, and workspaces.
The ability to adjust the light distribution allows it to adapt to different times of day and various spatial configurations; it can provide functional, task-oriented lighting or transform into an atmospheric, decorative presence.
Its strong material identity also makes it an excellent choice for lounges, hospitality settings, and contract environments, where lighting design plays a central role in the interior architecture.
