Le Corbusier: a pioneer of modern design

Le Corbusier, pseudonym of Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris, is was a Swiss-born French architect, urban planner, designer and painter, considered one of the undisputed masters of modern architecture of the 20th century. His multifaceted figure revolutionized the concept of living space, combining functionality, aesthetics and technological progress in iconic works that still influence the design panorama today

Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1887, Le Corbusier first trained as a watchmaker, before dedicating himself to architecture under the guidance of Charles L'Eplattenier. After a period of formative travel in Europe and the East, he settled in Paris in 1917, where his prolific career began

A legacy artistic without equal

Among his most important works famous we remember the Villa Savoye in Poissy (1929), a manifesto of modern architecture, and the Unité d'Habitation in Marseille (1952), a residential complex that anticipates the principles of contemporary urban planning. Le Corbusier collaborated with the most great design brands of the time, such as Cassina, Knoll and Thonet, creating furniture that was revolutionary for its ergonomics and minimalism, such as the LC4 armchair and the LC3 chaise longue.

His creations, still today produced and distributed by companies such as Cassina and Thonet, are considered true design icons. Among these, we remember the LC4 armchair, with its steel structure and leather seat, and the LC3 chaise longue, an ergonomic work of art that invites you to relax.
