Expormim: designer furniture for the outdoors

For over sixty years, Expormim has been carrying on a tradition of craftsmanship that began with rattan weaving and has now evolved into technical outdoor collections, developed in collaboration with designers such as Oscar Tusquets Blanca and Jaime Hayon. The company has successfully adapted its heritage to the global market without ever compromising on quality, with outdoor furniture that emphasizes simplicity, comfort, and ethics, aiming to promote Mediterranean culture and character.

Founded in 1960 as La Exportadora del Mimbre, the company was born from the founder’s insight into two post-World War II needs: the scarcity of products made from natural materials in Europe and the need to modernize the Moixent area, near Valencia. Over time, Expormim has faced challenges related to markets and the availability of raw materials, always overcoming them with a pioneering spirit and the ability to reinvent itself.

Today, the company combines the tradition of rattan with new materials and finishes in accordance with contemporary tastes, crafting comfortable, reliable, and sustainable furniture with artisanal care.

Garden furniture with a traditional soul

Expormim creates luxury outdoor furniture, maintaining a deep connection to its history and to the traditional craftsmanship of rattan, a material that, in the collective imagination, embodies the very essence of outdoor spaces. This idea of simplicity associated with being outdoors is what Expormim conveys through its collections, whether in rattan or other materials: objects and furnishings that are elegant in their simplicity, as sunny as a Mediterranean garden, and functional because they are the result of extensive manufacturing experience.

Expormim’s outdoor collections on Ciat Design

One of Expormim’s most recent collections is Meridies, created in collaboration with Roberto Lazzaroni. Meridies was conceived as a collection that bridges the gap between indoor and outdoor spaces, with pieces designed to create a garden lounge: the sofas and armchairs combine craftsmanship with Mediterranean design, featuring enveloping sofas and armchairs with generous cushions and curved backrests, paired with travertine coffee tables in organic shapes.

The Expormim Cask outdoor collection by Norm Architects was originally designed as an indoor rattan collection. For the outdoor version, rattan has been replaced with aluminum, without compromising the softness and fluidity of the original collection’s forms. The result is furniture with rounded, soft, and enveloping lines, yet extremely durable thanks to the high-quality materials used

Among Expormim’s most iconic outdoor furnishings, the Lapala outdoor chair collection stands out, inspired by the traditional woven chairs typical of Mediterranean countries. Designed by the Lievore Altherr Molina studio, the Lapala chairs retain a distinctive shape, updated in terms of ergonomics and materials. The collection is crafted from hand-woven polypropylene nautical rope—a material resistant to corrosion and weathering—while the frame is made of stainless steel tubing. The Lapala outdoor chairs are available in several versions: low, with wooden or steel legs, as a stool, armchair, and footrest.
