MR Side Chair

Design

The MR Collection was born during a phase of intense experimentation with the use of tubular steel in modern furniture. Mies van der Rohe took the principle of the cantilevered seat and interpreted it with a broad, continuous curve, eliminating rigid angles and introducing a more fluid profile. The structure thus acquires a natural elasticity and an immediately recognizable silhouette. The chair appears almost suspended in space: the seat and backrest are supported only by the front frame, while the absence of back legs visually lightens the entire composition.

Comfort and Functionality

The comfort of the MR Side Chair comes from the interaction between its elastic structure and the seat surface. The cantilever frame responds to body movements with a slight flex, while the rattan or leather creates a continuous surface capable of supporting the back and seat without the need for bulky padding. The chair thus maintains an extremely thin and light profile, while offering a relaxed and welcoming position.

Versatility and Setting

Around a dining table, the MR Side Chair creates a light and refined composition. The metal profile interacts with marble, glass, wood, or stone tables without creating excessive visual bulk. The rattan version is particularly effective in environments characterized by natural materials, light woods, and neutral palettes. The leather version, on the other hand, introduces a more decisive and sophisticated character, ideal alongside dark woods, marble, and metal surfaces. The chair can also be used in a study, a meeting room, or as an occasional seat in the living room. The historical value of the design also makes it suitable for hotels, lounges, executive offices, restaurants, and refined contract environments.
