Maap W2 Wall Lamp

Design

Maap stems from the intersection of geometry, natural structures, and lightness—three recurring themes in Erwan Bouroullec’s work. Beneath the seemingly spontaneous surface lies a precise metal structure, while the thin fiber covering introduces irregularities, folds, and variations that make every installation unique. Visually resembling paper, the membrane is designed to be crumpled and molded by hand. The result evokes a large, luminous cloud—a dramatic presence that transcends the traditional concept of a wall lamp, incorporating the wall itself as an integral part of the design.

Lighting and functionality

The light sources are mounted on an iron support attached to a circular backplate, while the ultra-lightweight, tear-resistant diffuser attaches to the structure via large magnetic buttons. This unique system allows the membrane to be removed and reshaped, altering its folds and volume even after installation. Maap W2 produces a soft, enveloping diffused light, spreading it across a much larger surface area than a conventional wall lamp. The W2 version uses eight E27 LED retrofit bulbs and is compatible with remote dimming systems.

Versatility and adaptability

With a maximum width of approximately 240 cm, the Maap W2 is designed for impressive walls and spaces where lighting serves an architectural and decorative function. It can take center stage in spacious living rooms, dining areas, bedrooms, lounges, and contract spaces, creating a luminous surface that engages with the architecture. Furthermore, the ability to freely shape the diffuser allows for a change in the lamp's visual impact, adapting its presence to the specific space.
