Cappellini Sofas, Innovation and Aesthetics

Founded in the late 1940s in Brianza as a traditional furniture company, Cappellini began a path of innovation in 1977, when Giulio Cappellini joined the business with the goal of taking his father’s company to the international market.

The first innovations focused on the Sistemi storage elements, which combine aesthetics, functionality, and customization even in mass production. The company later collaborated with Nendo and Jasper Morrison. Through projects like Marc Newson’s Embryo Chair, Tom Dixon’s S-Chair, and the production of Alessandro Mendini’s Proust armchair, Cappellini became known for a design approach independent of trends, where Italian craftsmanship meets international style.

Cappellini, Signature Sofas

Cappellini sofas offer exceptional seating comfort thanks to carefully balanced proportions and padding that maintains its quality over time. Comfort is enhanced by upholstery and forms with strong aesthetic appeal.

The Cappellini sofa collection includes bold designs by Jasper Morrison, such as the soft and sinuous Orla sofa and the Three Sofa de Luxe sofa-dormeuse, which transforms the sofa into a dormeuse through the sculptural shapes of the seat. Jean-Marie Massaud’s InOut is a fiberglass bench-sofa with a futuristic look.

Alongside sculptural pieces, Cappellini offers versatile, essential designs, such as Rodolfo Dordoni’s Cuba 25 sofa with removable covers and large loose cushions, and Jasper Morrison’s Elan sofa, a minimalist and elegant modular system. Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec designed the Basket sofa, featuring an exposed metal frame that wraps around the cushions, which can be paired in contrasting or tone-on-tone combinations.
