Butter Coffee Table

Design

The Butter coffee table is born from Faye Toogood's research into simple, tactile, and seemingly hand-sculpted forms. The base features a low, generous volume, characterized by rounded corners and padded surfaces that recall the smooth texture of butter. The marble top sits at the center of the composition, creating a refined contrast between the visual softness of the upholstery and the mineral texture of the stone. The result is a coffee table with an informal yet carefully designed presence, capable of transcending the traditional distinction between upholstered furniture and a surface.

A soft and compact shape

The coffee table echoes the proportions of the Butter pouf, replacing the top cushion with a solid marble top. This configuration preserves the collection's welcoming character and adds a practical surface for books, trays, drinks, and decorative objects. The upholstered base maintains continuity with the Butter sofas, armchair, and ottoman, allowing for coordinated living room compositions. The shapes, free of sharp edges, give the table a visually soft feel and allow it to fit seamlessly into even the most informal conversation areas.

Structure and Padding

The internal structure consists of a wooden frame, designed to support the top and maintain the stability of the table. The base is covered with polyurethane foam of varying densities, creating a full, rounded surface without compromising structural support. The final covering can be fabric or leather. This construction creates an unusual contrast: the table has the structure and functionality of a side table, yet retains the tactile and visual quality of an upholstered piece. The marble top provides a durable, textured surface, enhancing the softness of the base through a sharp contrast of textures.

Versatility and ambiance

In the living room, the coffee table can occupy the center of the conversation area or flank a sofa or armchair. The square version is ideal for large living areas and central compositions, while the rectangular version easily adapts to more compact spaces. Integrated into the Butter sofa, the coffee table interrupts the continuity of the seating with a functional surface, perfect for reading, conversation, and relaxation. Used alone, it becomes a sculptural element, combining fabric, leather, and natural stone.
