The PH Septima by Louis Poulsen is considered one of Poul Henningsen's finest creations. First presented in 1928, this iconic pendant represents a remarkable evolution of the celebrated PH system, distinguished by its complex structure of seven glass shades and an exceptionally soft, glare-free light quality.

Details and Measures
A masterpiece of lighting design
When the prototype of the PH Septima was exhibited in 1928 at the Designmuseum Danmark, it immediately aroused great admiration. Considered one of Henningsen's most sophisticated works, the lamp represents the perfect balance between technical research, formal elegance, and light quality. Based on the celebrated principle of the three PH shades, Septima introduces an even more elaborate structure composed of three main shades derived from the original PH system and four additional shades inserted between the main ones, all made of borosilicate glass, allowing for extremely precise light control, creating a soft, uniform diffusion.
A design that inspired the PH Artichoke
During the development of the Septima, Poul Henningsen also created a metal version that was never produced. However, those drawings formed the conceptual basis for the future PH Artichoke, designed some thirty years later for the famous Langelinie Pavilion in Copenhagen.
From Disappearance to Return
Like many lamps of the era, the PH Septima went out of production in the 1940s due to the scarcity of raw materials. In 2020, Louis Poulsen reintroduced this extraordinary design, reinterpreting the PH Septima 5 version with optimized glass and suspension to ensure greater stability, durability, and build quality.
