Vistosi

Born from the Murano glass art

Vistosi is an Italian lighting brand that stands out for its craftsmanship and innovative design. Founded in 1585, the company has deep roots in traditional Venetian blown glass art, centuries-old artisanal techniques that are combined with a contemporary aesthetic. Vistosi creations are characterized by elegant and sophisticated shapes, often playing with transparency, color and light.

The brand has received many prizes for its creations, including the Compasso d'Oro for the Anisette lamp, and the Red Dot Design Award for Sata, Anisette, and Plissé lamps. Each piece is a work of art in itself, the result of a careful production process that enhances quality and originality. Vistosi is synonymous with style, innovation and a strong connection with the tradition of Murano glass, maintaining continuous research and experimentation.

Vistosi, born from the Venetian glassmaking tradition

Vistosi traces its origins back nearly 500 years to Venice, when the Gazzabin family name first appeared in the early records of Murano glassmaking. “Vistosi” was the nickname given in 1690 to an heir of the Gazzabin glassworks. A legacy of craftsmanship that has spanned centuries, evolving into an innovative company firmly rooted in the present.

The transition from traditional glassmaking to lighting took place after World War II, with the start of new collaborations and the acquisition of a new furnace. Designers who have linked their names to Vistosi lighting include Gae Aulenti, Angelo Mangiarotti, Ettore Sottsass, and Vico Magistretti.

Vistosi lighting, a story of craftsmanship

Today, Vistosi is an artisanal industrial company with its own glassworks, one of the largest glass grinding facilities in Europe, and an in-house research and development department. This structure ensures consistent quality while remaining true to the historic identity of Vistosi lighting.

Vistosi lamps hold a significant number of exclusive patents, the result of unique processes that shape glass in distinctive ways. A well-known example is the Giogali lamp, designed by Angelo Mangiarotti in 1967. Giogali lighting is composed of crystal hooks that can be replicated and interwoven endlessly. The crystal module is the core element, multiplied to create cascading compositions of light. The traditional Venetian chandelier is reinterpreted as a striking, sculptural feature capable of generating unique configurations.

In 2025, after receiving numerous mentions over the years, Vistosi was awarded its first Compasso d’Oro for the Anisette lamp designed by Francesco Lucchese. Anisette lighting takes the form of an inverted lantern and is made of opaline glass, one of the hallmarks of Vistosi production. The lamp allows four different configurations through the layering or juxtaposition of the opaline elements, a design feature that makes it possible to change both its appearance and the atmosphere it creates.
