LC3 is a méridienne, an armchair with only one armrest, designed for Cassina in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeannerette and Charlotte Perriand. The méridienne LC3 is part of the family of furnishing accessories created by the three designers for the project "Equipment intereur d'une habitation", a highly innovative idea that would have influenced the design for a long time, up to the present day. The basic concept of the project is simple: the house is a "machine to be inhabited" and therefore requires special basic units of furniture, separate, independent and freely usable. Thus was born the idea of designing archetypal complements, which are at the same time composed of simple single elements, easily manufactured in series and functional, of real "domestic equipment". The LC3 is, in fact, made in harmonious proportions, according to a scheme of relationships and measures called "Modulor", conceived by Le Corbusier himself studying postures, movements and interactions with the objects of a tall human body m 1.83. No detail is, therefore, left to chance: width of the armrests, thickness of the cushions, width and height of the structure, everything follows the golden decalogue of the ideal livability.
