Free and enveloping comfort
The name Womb, which recalls the concept of a womb, directly expresses the idea behind the design: to offer a feeling of protection, concentration, and security. The generous shell allows for a variety of postures. You can sit facing forward, rotate your body sideways, rest your legs on the armrest, or use the additional space for a book or tablet. Combined with the Womb footrest, the chair allows you to fully extend your legs, creating an even more relaxing configuration.
Structure and materials
The shell is made of contoured fiberglass and covered with padding. The lower frame uses a thin metal structure that follows the contours of the chair. Knoll offers the base in a black or chrome finish with a wide range of upholstery options, allowing for customization of the chair's color, texture, and character. Production retains a significant artisanal component: Knoll notes that each Womb Chair is crafted using a variety of manual processes, from preparing the shell to sewing the upholstery.
