Platner Armchair

Design

In the 1960s, Warren Platner identified the possibility of introducing greater decorative richness into the modern language, without resorting to applied ornamentation. From this research, the Platner Collection was born: a family of furnishings in which hundreds of thin metal elements simultaneously define the supporting structure and the aesthetic identity. In the chair, the vertical rods extend from the circular base and expand upward, following the shape of the seat and armrests. The result is a silhouette that seems to grow from the floor and naturally envelop the sitter. The transparency of the structure also allows the environment to be perceived through the chair, reducing its visual impact despite its complex construction.

Comfort and Enveloping Form

The metal frame, available in various finishes, supports a contoured fiberglass shell, designed to follow the body's contours and create a welcoming seat. Latex foam padding softens the surface and offers comfortable support, while the curved backrest and integrated armrests envelop the user laterally. This combination of comfort and visual lightness makes Platner suitable for extended use in dining rooms, meeting rooms, and hospitality environments.

Upholstery and Customization

The seat and backrest can be upholstered in a wide range of fabrics and leathers from the Knoll collection. The numerous textures and colors allow for a wide variety of interpretations of the Platner Arm Chair. A neutral upholstery highlights the design of the metal frame, while more intense shades transform the seat into a colorful accent. The contrast between the padded volume and the metal base also allows for sophisticated combinations of soft materials and reflective surfaces.
