The Onfale table lamp by Artemide, designed by Luciano Vistosi in 1978, is an icon of Italian glass lighting. Its soft, rounded shape, inspired by the profile of a mushroom, unites body and diffuser in a harmonious composition capable of diffusing a uniform, enveloping light.

Design
Onfale interprets elementary geometry through soft, continuous proportions. The body gradually widens toward the top, supporting a large, rounded diffuser that recalls the natural shape of a mushroom. The structure appears to be composed of a single luminous volume, free of visually invasive technical elements. This formal simplicity allows the lamp to fit into both contemporary and more classic interiors, maintaining its distinctive character.
Blown Glass and Craftsmanship
The lamp is made of blown glass, a material that defines both the supporting structure and the diffuser. The opaline surface attenuates the light source and distributes the light softly, avoiding excessive contrasts. One of Onfale's distinctive features is the heat-applied edge of the clear crystal diffuser. This detail emphasizes the lamp's profile and creates a refined contrast between the opal portion and the transparent band.
Diffused lighting
Onfale produces a diffused light emission that encompasses the diffuser and, in the larger sizes, the body of the lamp. The light passes through the opal glass and is evenly distributed throughout the space, creating a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. The glass shield reduces the direct perception of the light source and makes the lamp suitable for ambient lighting. Placed on a sideboard or console, it generates a soft luminous presence; used on a bedside table, it adds a welcoming glow to evening moments. The Retrofit LED light sources are replaceable and not included.
