The In Vitro Ceiling lamp by Flos brings diffused, soft, and architectural light to outdoor spaces. Designed by Philippe Starck, it interprets the idea of a contemporary lantern through a minimalist glass and aluminum volume, creating the effect of a transparent form illuminated from within. Installed on the ceiling, it defines the outdoor space with a discreet, elegant, and highly functional presence.

Design
In Vitro Ceiling is born from an essential language, in which lighting technology is integrated into a pure and rigorous structure. The transparent borosilicate outer glass protects the opalescent diffuser integrated into the head, creating the illusion of an empty space pierced by light. The lamp maintains the refined aesthetic of the In Vitro collection, transforming the ceiling light into a suspended and silent architectural element. The result is a poetic yet restrained lighting solution, perfect for enhancing contemporary outdoor spaces without weighing down the composition.
Comfort and functionality
The integrated LED source with Edge Lighting technology diffuses a uniform and relaxing light. The opalescent diffuser softens the light output and helps create a warm atmosphere, ideal for convivial moments and outdoor passageways. The integrated 220–240 V power supply allows for ON/OFF control and dimming via 1-10 V or DALI systems. This flexibility makes In Vitro Ceiling also suitable for advanced lighting projects, where it is important to adjust the light intensity based on the environment and function of the space.
Materials and durability
The structure is made of extruded and die-cast aluminum, treated with a chemical conversion process and finished with powder coating. This process makes the lamp suitable for outdoor use, preserving its aesthetic and functional quality over time. The external borosilicate safety glass adds protection and transparency, while the integrated opalescent diffuser ensures a soft and balanced light distribution.
