The Biboni sofa by Knoll, designed by Johnston Marklee, translates the American studio's architectural research into the world of furniture. Full volumes, voids, and curves shape a soft, sculptural silhouette, designed to embrace the body through a succession of padded pleats. The result is a sofa capable of combining comfort, architectural presence, and an elegance that recalls, in a contemporary key, the tradition of grand Chesterfield sofas.

Design
Biboni was born from the way Sharon Johnston and Mark Lee, founders of the Johnston Marklee studio, approach architectural design: through the relationship between body, objects, and space. The sofa's form is constructed like a miniature architectural piece. The padded surfaces curve, move closer together, and separate, generating a succession of volumes and recesses that alter the perception of the object depending on the vantage point. The characteristic padded pleats are precisely positioned to accompany and envelop the body, while the scalloped silhouette accentuates the composition's rhythm.
Enveloping Comfort
Behind Biboni's sculptural presence lies a construction designed to offer soft yet balanced support. The seat features a wood and wood-based frame, padded with flexible polyurethane of varying densities. A polyester fiber pre-covering contributes to the surface's softness. The backrest and armrests feature a metal structural core covered with flexible molded polyurethane. This combination allows the padded forms to maintain their defined profile while offering a welcoming sensation. Biboni supports the body in a relaxed yet composed position, avoiding both the rigidity of a formal sofa and the excessive sinking typical of extremely soft seating.
Versatility and Ambience
In a large living room, Biboni can become the center of the conversation area, accompanied by low tables with essential geometries and lighter armchairs. Its three-dimensional shape is particularly effective in open spaces, where the sofa can be used as an element capable of organizing the flow and distinguishing different functions without introducing barriers. Its generous proportions and strong architectural character also make it suitable for lounges, hotels, reception areas, executive spaces and refined hospitality environments.
