FontanaArte is one of the longest-standing lighting companies in the history of Italian design, with a manufacturing tradition that began with the working of crystal and glass. Under the artistic direction of Gio Ponti, which began in the 1930s, FontanaArte started making its mark with innovative furniture and lamps that immediately became classics: examples include the 0024 pendant lamp, FontanaArte’s first icon, the Bilia lamp, and the 1932 coffee table.

Over the years, FontanaArte has collaborated with leading designers such as Max Ingrand, Gae Aulenti, Franco Raggi, and former artistic director Gio Ponti. These collaborations have given rise to some of the most famous lamps in design, true icons that tell the story of Italian ingenuity and “Made in Italy” craftsmanship, bringing it into every space.

FontanaArte floor lamps: the detail that transforms a space

Every FontanaArte project tells a unique story in which the designers’ ideas intertwine with the great Italian manufacturing tradition. Each lamp is a prized object that enhances any space, becoming a discreet and refined focal point. But that’s not all: each lamp is a treasure to be cherished over time, a precious testament to “Made in Italy” to be passed down to future generations.

One of FontanaArte’s iconic symbols is undoubtedly the Pirellone lamp by Gio Ponti, conceived in 1967 as a “skyscraper of light” and inspired by the eponymous project from the 1950s. The floor lamp consists of two sheets of curved, diamond-cut glass held together by a metal frame, with points of light reflecting off the glass to evoke illuminated windows. It is one of the most recognizable designs of “Made in Italy,” bringing together several elements typical of Gio Ponti’s work, such as structural elegance, the use of light, and the incorporation of experimental materials.

Although they share a connection to the art world and an exclusive elegance, FontanaArte lamps stand out from one another thanks to their consistently original materials and designs. This eclectic collection includes the minimalist Prima Signora floor lamp, consisting of a large sphere supported by three slender legs, and the whimsy of the Re and Regina lamps, chess pieces reimagined in extra-large sizes, as well as the futuristic lines of the Vertigo lamp by Marco Acerbis, characterized by a thin sheet of aluminum with folded corners and surfaces.
