With its long history, which began with glassmaking, and the mark left by Gio Ponti’s artistic direction, FontanaArte is one of Italy’s leading designer lighting brands, a guardian of our country’s creativity, design, and craftsmanship. Its lamps have become silent icons, elegant and understated objects that are part of the collective imagination of art and design lovers. They have been honored with numerous awards, including the Compasso d’Oro Lifetime Achievement Award and inclusion in the Special Register of Historic Brands of National Interest.
Some of FontanaArte’s best-known designs fall into the category of table lamps, often chosen for their ability to transform the atmosphere without major changes to the decor. The lamps offered by FontanaArte stand out for the originality of their shapes and materials, a characteristic that makes them resemble works of art, beautiful and decorative whether they’re on or off. Some of the lamps created by FontanaArte are much more than simple furnishings, as they are pieces of Italian design history: such as the Bilia lamp by Gio Ponti, the Uovo lamp by Ben Swildens (also available in outdoor and portable versions), the unmistakable Fontana bedside lamp by Max Ingrand, and Pinecone by Paola Navone.
The Bilia lamp (1932) juxtaposes two basic geometric shapes, with a sphere balanced on a conical base. A seemingly simple object, yet capable of lending great elegance to any space precisely because of its simplicity, balance, and subtle diffusion of light. The Uovo lamp (1969) represents a universal symbol of perfection, a shell made of satin-finished white blown glass that diffuses light evenly and envelopingly. Another icon of FontanaArte’s production is the Fontana table lamp (1958), originally named 1853. The lamp is available in three versions, with multiple light sources distributed between the base and the shade to meet different needs and, therefore, controllable independently. The Pinecone lamp, also available as a pendant, is crafted using the caged blown glass technique, which creates a play of tension in which the glass seems to want to expand beyond the metal cage. It is available in transparent or opaque versions, both of which make a striking visual impact.
Every FontanaArte lamp is a luxury design piece, born from the creativity of great designers and brought to life by master artisans. Our selection of FontanaArte table lamps includes some of the brand’s most famous designs, such as the Regina lamp by Bobo Piccoli, inspired by chess, the Meridiano, Equatore, and Tropico lamps by Gabriele and Oscar Buratti, Giova by Gae Aulenti, and Parola by Gae Aulenti and Piero Castiglioni.
