The In Vitro pendant lamp by Flos brings diffused, controlled, and dramatic light to outdoor spaces. Designed by Philippe Starck, it interprets the contemporary lantern through a minimalist glass and aluminum body, creating the effect of a transparent form illuminated from within. Suspended in space, it becomes an elegant luminous presence, ideal for terraces, porches, pergolas, and prestigious outdoor spaces.

Worldwide shipping
Standard shipping is free on orders from 250€ (Italy only) and applies to ground-level delivery. Worldwide shipping costs are calculated at checkout.

Design
In Vitro Suspension is born from a minimal and poetic vision: a seemingly empty body, enclosed in glass, that lights up like an architectural work of light. The clean, rigorous structure eliminates all superfluous elements, allowing the quality of the light and the purity of the volume to emerge. The transparent borosilicate outer glass protects the opalescent diffuser integrated into the head, contributing to a light and refined visual perception. The result is an outdoor lamp with a contemporary character, capable of interacting with modern architecture, textured surfaces, and elegant outdoor furnishings.
Comfort and functionality
The integrated LED light source with Edge Lighting technology provides diffused and uniform light. The light emission is shielded by the opalescent diffuser, creating a soft and comfortable illumination, suitable for both conviviality and enhancing a space. The integrated 220–240 V power supply is housed in the ceiling mount and allows for different light management modes: ON/OFF control, 1-10 V dimming, or DALI control. This flexibility makes In Vitro suitable for even the most sophisticated lighting projects, both residential and commercial.
Materials and durability
The structure is made of extruded and die-cast aluminum, treated with a chemical conversion process and finished with powder coating. This process ensures greater durability for outdoor use and preserves the aesthetic quality of the lamp over time. The external borosilicate safety glass adds protection and transparency, while the integrated opalescent diffuser ensures a delicate and balanced light distribution.
