Brutalist Table

Design

Brutalist was born from the idea that structure can become a language. Giampiero Tagliaferri does not hide the table's supporting system, but rather brings it to the forefront, making it the most recognizable element of the project. The base is expressed in its materiality and function, following an approach that directly recalls Italian engineering architecture of the second half of the twentieth century. Every element appears necessary. There are no decorative parts superimposed on the construction: it is the concrete, the geometry of the supports, and the relationship with the tabletop that generate the table's aesthetic strength.

Sculptural Concrete Base

The key element of Brutalist is the concrete base, characterized by an irregular geometry reminiscent of a star. The material is allowed to express itself through its mass and visual presence. Concrete conveys solidity, authenticity, and continuity with the language of Brutalist architecture, without being used simply as a decorative cladding. The massive presence of concrete is balanced by the spaces that open up between the different elements of the base. The void thus takes on a specific design role: it allows light to pass through the structure, makes the depth of the base visible, and continually changes the silhouette depending on the vantage point.

Beveled Top

The top plays a fundamental role in balancing the strength of the base. Minotti introduces softened corners and slightly convex sides, especially in the square and rectangular configurations, avoiding an excessively harsh contrast between the concrete and the upper surface. The curvature is subtle but sufficient to alter the silhouette. From a distance, the top maintains a rigorous form; upon closer inspection, it reveals a continuous, softer line. The relationship between base and top thus becomes a synthesis of structural rigor and formal sensitivity.

Versatility and Ambience

In a contemporary dining room, Brutalist can become the main architectural element. The concrete base introduces a strong material presence, while the top allows for a choice between a warmer interpretation in wood or a more precious, mineral-like marble. In a classic interior, the contrast with wood paneling, parquet, and decorative elements can create a sophisticated and less predictable composition. In open-plan spaces, the sculptural geometry of the base allows the table to sit freely at the center of the room, where it can be observed from different perspectives.
