Alambicco Vertical Pendant Lamp

Design

Alambicco Vertical develops the modular principle of the eponymous collection vertically. The lamp is constructed from a succession of glass volumes that envelop a thin central technological structure. The rounded shapes of the diffusers introduce rhythm and movement along the body of the lamp. The transparency allows the external surface, the internal texture, and the LED core to be perceived simultaneously, transforming the technical structure into an integral part of the design.

A layered lighting structure

At the center of the lamp is an extruded aluminum element that houses the LED circuitry on four opposing faces. This core distributes light along the entire vertical axis of the fixture. The first layer is composed of a knurled glass cylinder. This surface refracts the view of the technological components without completely hiding them, attenuating the direct perception of the light sources and contributing to a comfortable light output.

Blown Glass and Balloton Technique

The diffusers are made of blown glass and feature a process inspired by the ancient Venetian balloton technique. During the first phase, a matrix imprints a three-dimensional texture composed of small square-based reliefs on the hot glass. The master glassmaker then works on the volume to give it its final shape. The texture changes density following the curves of the diffuser: the design appears to open and narrow along the surface, gaining depth when light passes through it. The variations in thickness, shape, and texture resulting from the manual process make each piece unique. These features are not imperfections, but rather a testament to the artisanal nature of the product.

Diffused light and visual comfort

The layering of the diffusers performs a precise optical function. The knurled glass attenuates the direct view of the LED circuitry, while the transparent external elements refract and distribute the light throughout the room. The light emission extends along the entire height of the lamp, creating a uniform, three-dimensional luminous presence. The source remains perceptible as the technological core, but does not produce direct glare. The light also highlights the different glass processes, generating reflections that change based on the perspective and lighting conditions of the space. Alambicco Vertical is dimmable and is also available in versions compatible with the Artemide App. This adjustment allows the light intensity to be adjusted based on the use of the space, ranging from a more intense and functional emission to a more concentrated and dramatic light.
